“Zombie Wedding” grew out of the fertile brain of composer Daniel Sturman.
Like all young children, it grew and changed and reached puberty as a musical zomedy — “My Best Friend’s Wedding” with a romantic zombie twist. It was helped along by writer/lyricist R.C. Staab who joined with Sturman to craft the show into a six-character, 90-minute, minimal set show that’s perfect for theaters looking for a Halloween hook.
In January 2011, “Zombie Wedding” was presented in an Equity approved staged reading at the EXIT Theatre in San Francisco for an invited audience of 60 people. Cuts, changes, tears ensued. All of this happened quickly so the creative team could produced a demo CD in February so the theatrical world could begin to enjoy the show vicariously.
In April 2011, “Zombie Wedding” was accepted in the New York International Fringe Festival. Directed by Tony-nominee Randy Myler and featuring an Equity-approved cast of six singer/actors, “Zombie Wedding” was presented with great acclaim for five performances in August at the Fringe’s largest venue, cavernous The Ellen Stewart Theatre at LaMama. Despite competing with 200 other Fringe shows, “Zombie Wedding” was considered one of the Fringe’s top picks by the New York theatrical and general media (click here for NEWS and REVIEWS).
Future productions await, as well as a few more cuts, changes, additions and tears from the creative team.
